Noar Linhas Aéreas Flight 4896 was a passenger flight which crashed in Boa Viagem, Recife, Brazil, on 13 July 2011. All 16 aboard died. The aircraft involved, a Let L-410UVP-E20, was operating Noar Linhas Aéreas's domestic scheduled service from Recife Airport to Mossoró Airport via Natal. Shortly after take-off, a mayday was issued and the crew indicated their intention to land on the beach at Boa Viagem. The aircraft subsequently crashed some 1,200 metres (1,300 yd) beyond the end of the Recife Airport runway, killing all on board.

Aircraft

The accident aircraft was Let L-410UVP-E20, registration PR-NOB. The aircraft was built in 2010 as c/n 2722. It was the second purchased by Noar Linhas Aéreas, entering service in June 2010.

Accident

The aircraft had taken off from Recife Airport for its stopover destination of Augusto Severo International Airport, Natal, and was in the initial climb phase of the flight when a mayday was issued at 06:51 local time (09:51 Zulu Time/UTC). The aircraft was seen to descend (the pilot reported problems with one of the 2 engines) steeply and crashed into a field some 1,200 metres (1,300 yd) beyond the end of the runway (8°09′09″S 34°54′34″W). The aircraft was consumed in the post-crash fire. The crew had announced an intention to land on the beach at Boa Viagem. Both crew and all fourteen passengers were killed. (Suspected engine failure).

Investigation

An investigation into the accident was opened by Segundo Serviço Regional de Investigação e Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronáuticos (SERIPA II) of the Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center (CENIPA).
