On 20 November 2013 the Canadian TSB reported that POE688, C-GLQM was on route from CYAM to CYTZ when the crew received a #2 Engine Driven Pump caution light. As the checklist was being actioned the #2 system hydraulic pressure and fluid quantity dropped to zero. The crew contacted company dispatch and an operational decision was made to divert to CYYZ. The decision factored in the longer runways, the landing gear to be lowered using the alternate landing gear extension system, and nosewheel steering would not be available. Although the crew did not declare an emergency they did request a hotspot inspection for the #2 engine after landing which would require ARFF(emergency services) response. During the approach ATC contacted the aircraft and asked if the crew was declaring an emergency. The crew replied that all they required was a hotspot inspection and were not declaring an emergency. A hotspot inspection can only be performed by ARFF personnel and ATC advised ARFF they would be required after the aircraft landed. The aircraft landed uneventfully and came to a stop on the runway. After ARFF cleared the aircraft, it was towed to the gate where passengers deplaned. Maintenance determined the #2 Hydraulic EDP had a catastrophic internal failure which ruptured the EDP case. All hydraulic fluid was lost through the rupture in the case. The EDP was replaced and a system flush was performed. The aircraft was then returned to service. The operator has requested a teardown report from the pump vendor and has notified the aircraft manufacturer.
