On 13 November 2013 the Canadian TSB reported that the United Express (Operating as Commutair) DHC-8-200 aircraft (N375PH, Flt. 4811) was on route and entering icing conditions. The crew turned on the windshield heat and immediately noticed one of the windows smoking with some plastic around the window melting. The crew turned off the windshield heat and declared an emergency with ATC. The aircraft performed an uneventful landing with ARFF standing by. Maintenance found a burnt screw lug terminal and loose screw that connected to the pilot's window heating element. The terminal and screw were replaced and the aircraft was returned to service.
